A George III mahogany commode in the French taste and in the manner of John Cobb, banded in satinwood and maplewood and inlaid with stringings, the serpentine-shaped top inlaid with a floral bouquet, knotted with a ribbon tie, in a marquetry of many woods, the two bombe-shaped side panels with baskets of flowers suspended from drapery ties, the two doors with hanging floral sprays centred by a trophy of love, enclosing an interior fitted with harewood drawers inlaid with marquetry sprays on the inner faces, the border in ormolu cast and chased as interlaced ovolos, the angle mounts cast and chased as female masks and acanthus foliage and with similar sabots and apron mounts 24in deep 56in wide
