An important harlequin set of George III giltwood seat-furniture, mostly supplied by Beckwith and France, the rectangular backs and seat rails and the down-curved ties, raised on turned tapered fluted supports, covered in crimson silk damask, of neo-classical design (some painted), comprising: a. 22 open armchairs of giltwood, with rectangular backs, the arm supports carved with ribbon ties. b. 6 open armchairs of gilt wood with cartouch back, the arm supports plain c. A pair of settees with scrolled ends 110in wide with bolsters and squab cushions d. An open armchair, similar to (a) grained, and with reeded legs e. A mahogany open bergere with reeded frame upholstered in black cloth f. A mahogany open armchair, similar to (a), with fluted legs, upholstered in blue silk g. A white-painted and gilded open armchair, similar to (a), with reeded legs h. A giltwood stool with shaped ends - 46 1/2in wide i. As (h) grained and gilt - 37in wide j. As (h) giltwood k. As (h) white-painted and parcel gilt 37in l. As (h) giltwood, with shaped ends, the frame with ribbon ties - 45 1/2 in wide The stools, bergeres and open armchairs form duchesses or chaises-longues.
