A Derby figure of Venus and Cupid
Maker:  Maker Unknown
A Derby figure of Venus and Cupid, circa 1756/60, the goddess stands poised gracefully with her right hand raised aloft above her high piled hair tied with a yellow headband, with her left hand she restrains the mischievous Cupid; classically draped in a high waisted and loose flowing robe decorated with scattered flowers, her small companion casually clad in turquoise drapery about his waist and with a pink ribbon about his locks, an empty quiver suspended from his chest by a yellow strap, both figures stand before a tree stump support on simple mound base delicately painted with scrolling foliage, 17.8cm.
